Abstract

1411611 Friction dampers GRAUBREMSE GmbH 12 Sept 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 42193/72 Heading F2S A telescopic friction damper has a deformable friction damping member 4 of cellular plastics material (e.g. polyurethane), mounted on a member 1 between two relatively adjustable elements 7 and 10, and in frictional engagement with a member 2. There is required to be within the cellular member 4 an abutment member 8<SP>1</SP> or 9 which has wedge engagement with it on relative movement of the members 1, 2 in at least one direction, to increase the frictional damping force. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the abutment member consists of two oppositely facing cones with different angles of inclination. The friction member 4 has a corrugated or serrated (Fig. 4, not shown) periphery or is formed with axially extending grooves (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown).
