Abstract

141,118. Ricardo, H. R. Jan. 4, 1919. Driving-gear.-Relates to the balancing of the secondary disturbing-forces in four-stroke-cycle engines, especially those having cranks at 180 degrees apart. This balancing is effected by non- rotating weights which are vibrated about their mean positions by eccentrics twice during each revolution of the engine. Preferably two, or a multiple of two, weights are used suspended by some form of toggle mechanism. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2, each twin-weight A is suspended by links C. E pivoted to the fixed framing, and is vibrated by an eccentric attached by its rod to the pins G of the links E. Fig. 10 shows an arrangement in which one weight A is used sliding vertically on a guide-pin L.
