Abstract
1411122 Mixing in conduits L'AIR LIQUIDE SOC ANON POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE 29 Sept 1972 [1 Oct 1971] 45198/72 Heading B1C [Also in Division F4] In a plate heat exchanger 10 comprising a plurality of plates, e.g. 11a, 12, 11b, spaced apart by closure bars 13 to define passages 14, 15 and 25 for the flow of heat exchange fluids, a first gaseous phase fluid together with a second liquid phase fluid supplied to the passages 14 by way of respective headers 7 and 6 are transferred into the passages 15 through transfer zones 60 in the plates 12 to mix with further second liquid phase, fluid introduced into the bottom of the passages 15 via an inlet header 6, the resulting gas-liquid mixture thereafter flowing upwardly through the passages 15 to heat exchange with a third fluid flowing downwardly through passages 25. Third fluid enters through an inlet header 9 and leaves by way of an outlet header 10. A series of perforated corrugated metal sheets 18, 19, 20, 21, 28, 29, 30, 31, 35, 36, 37 and 38 serve to uniformly distribute and collect the respective heat exchange fluids in the heat exchanger. As shown, each transfer zone 60 comprises a plurality of holes 23 in the plate 12. Alternatively the transfer zone may comprise a plurality of horizontally (Fig 7), obliquely (Fig 8) or vertically (Fig 9) disposed slots. The passages 14 and 25 are separated from one another by horizontal bars 24. The gaseous and liquid phase fluids are supplied from a separator vessel 2. In an alternative embodiment (see Figs 10- 14) the transfer zones are located in the upper part of the plates 12 and the gas-liquid fluid mixture is arranged to flow downwardly through the passages 15. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1284667.
