1411067 Two-part couplings ITT INDUSTRIES Inc 22 Jan 1974 [1 Feb 1973] 02851/74 Heading H2E Connectors engaging axially with locking means to prevent accidental pull-out, but releasable by pulling on a sleeve, comprise plug connector 10 with female central contact 48 receivable in receptacle connector 14 with central male contact 26. Plug connector 10 carries tapered ring 80 on nose of body, in front of annular recess 76 in slidable sleeve 94, the leading wall 96 of the recess being tapered oppositely to nose ring 80. The receptacle connector 14 carries internal annular groove 72 containing split spring ring 70 with natural internal diameter smaller than recess 76, its inner periphery being chamfered at both edges. On engagement, nose ring 80 expands ring 70, allowing it to spring back into recess 76: disengagement is then prevented by abutment of radial face 82 of ring with rear of nose ring 80. To release, sleeve 94 is retracted, taper 96 expanding ring 70 to allow passage of nose ring 80. Tension on cable 54 therefore cannot disengage unless sleeve 94 is retracted. The connector may carry more than one internal contact if required.
