Abstract
1411037 Fuel injectors FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 13 April 1973 [17 April 1972] 17883/73 Heading F1B Apparatus to inject fuel into an I.C. engine comprises an air-assist nozzle 26 with a chamber 28 having a cylindrical first portion 46 and a frusto-conical second portion 48, an orifice 50 for the discharge of air-atomized fuel from the nozzle and an air inlet passage 29 tangential to the cylindrical first portion of the chamber 28, and a discharge port 58 for discharging fuel into the cylindrical first portion 46 of the chamber 28. Air is supplied via passage 29 at about atmospheric pressure so that discharge port 58 is not subjected to wide pressure variations on its downstream side when the air throttle (not shown) in air passage 16 is opened and closed. The fuel injector 30 is actuated electromagnetically when coil 64 is energized to allow fuel to leave port 58.
