Abstract
1411034 Speed governors DRESSER INDUSTRIES Inc 9 Jan 1973 [24 Jan 1972] 1097/73 Heading G3B [Also in Division F1] Pneumatic apparatus comprises a pneumatic motor 22 having a drive spindle 53 for providing a rotational output, inlet means 14 for receiving operating air from a supply source for delivery to the motor and a governor for limiting the operating speed of the motor, the governor comprising means responsive to the rotational speed of the motor to frictionlessly move to close or substantially reduce the flow area of the delivery path 37 for the operating air from the inlet means to the motor when the rotational speed exceeds a predetermined value. The rotational speed responsive means comprises an annular spring washer 76 proximately displaced from at least the inlet of one air passage 37 to the motor and weight means 75 secured to and uniformly distributed about the face of the washer, the weight means being responsive to centrifugal force of rotation to effect the frictionless movement by deflecting the washer from its proximate displaced relation with the one passage toward a superposed transverse relation therewith at a predetermined rate correlated with the rotational speed of the motor. The governor has been principally described in its safety function in a back-up safety capacity with an associated primary governor 35 but it may function as a primary governor or a safety governor without association with a primary governor.
