Abstract

1410952 Card reader transport system TRUE DATA CORP 15 Nov 1972 [15 Nov 1971] 52850/72 Heading G4M A card reader has a hopper F the base plate 9 has an inclined portion 12 causing the cards C to be feathered so that the lowest card protrudes further than the others and is connected to an agitating motor 14. The cards are jostled so that one edge engages an aligning wall 6 which may be inclined to the vertical with plate 9 perpendicular to wall 6 so that the jostled cards fall against the wall. One end of plate 9 overlies a feed roller 25 which has annular grooves. The end of plate 9 terminates in fingers 35 received in the grooves. Above the cards is a spring 5 and a step 41 forming a restriction allowing passage of only one card at a time. The spring extends into a groove on the roller when no cards are carried on the roller. When plate 9 is at the upper part of its movement the cards are held out of contact with the roller. When the plate is lowered the lowest card is held against the roller by the spring and carried by the roller past a read head R. The spring holds the card against the roller and acts to smooth out wrinkles and prevent flutter. After leaving the read head the card passes between guides 62, 61 and the lower end is guided by surface 65 to an inclined position. The top end passes between turns of flexible coils 75 two of which are provided one on each side of the card and are rotated in opposite directions to move the card against support 66 and free the passage for entry of the next card. Spring 37 (Fig. 5) may be replaced by two springs (Figs. 8, 9, not shown).
