Abstract

1410569 Method of preparing sodalite INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 8 Nov 1973 [12 Dec 1972] 51851/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division C4] Sodalite is prepared by dehydrating in an inert atmosphere at from 200‹ to 400‹ C. a mixture of sodium-alumino-silicate and an alkali metal halide and then heating at 700‹ to 1050‹ C. in the presence of hydrogen. The mixture may include an activater, e.g. sodium sulphide, sodium sulphite, sodium sulphate, iron oxide, iron chloride or sdoium hydroxide. The alkali metal halide may be sodium chloride, sodium bromide, sodium iodide, lithium chloride, lithium bromide, lithium iodide, potassium chloride, potassium bromide, potassium iodide or mixtures of these. The ratio of sodiumalumino-silicate to alkali metal halide to activater may range from, e.g. 12 : 1 : 1 to 12 : 5 : 5. The dehydrated mixture may be heated in the presence of hydrogen gas and an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen.
