1410244 Dry shavers J GODEFROY 18 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 58266/72 Heading B4B An electric dry shaver comprises a shaving head having a cutter 23, 24 longitudinally reciprocable within a shaving plate 19 formed with hair entry slots 21, the cutter and shaving plate being mounted on a frame 9, 16 which is mounted for oscillatory movement about an axis 3 at a frequency which is less than that of the reciprocable movement of the cutter. The cutter is formed in two pieces 23, 24 joined together by leaf springs 26 which also serves to press the cutters into contact with the shaving plate 17. A plastic block 28 is mounted within the cutters and held in contact therewith by springs 29, Fig. 5. The cutter is reciprocated by means of a drive shaft 36 having an eccentric pin 35 engaging with a flexible member 33, 34, which is connected to the plastics block by pins 31. The shaving plate 17 is mounted in a cage 16 connected to a frame member 9 which is given an oscillatory motion by means of a drive member 4 pivotally mounted on a shaft 3 which is rocked by an eccentric drive 5, 6, 7, 8; the shaving plate is thereby urged into contact with the skin during reciprocation of the cutter. The drive member 4 may be disconnected from the frame 9 by moving a coupling device 10. A roller 43 is mounted on the shaving head so that, in combination with a raised wall portion 37 of the head the skin is stretched during shaving. The roller may be pivoted to an out-of-theway position thereby permitting the shaver to cut long hair.
