Abstract

1409831 Thermographic materials MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 16 Feb 1973 [17 Feb 1972 31 July 1972 20 Oct 1972 (3)] 7846/73 Heading G2C A thermographic material comprises a paper support coated with (a) a layer of a binder in which is dispersed particles of compounds which on heating react to give a first colour, (b) a thermally fusible layer which can dilute the colour in layer (a) and (c) a layer of a binder in which is dispersed particles of compounds which on heating react to give a second colour different from that of layer (a); the quantity Q 1 and Q 3 , being the heat required to form the first and second colours and Q2, being the heat to fuse layer (b), being in the relationship of Q 1 < Q 2 # Q 3 . Preferred colour forming compounds for layers (a) and (c) are leuco bases of triflenylmethanes or substituted fluorous of formula: wherein R x , Ry and R z are H, hydroxyl, alkoxy, halogen, alkyl, aryl, nitro, amino, mono- or dialkylamino, acetamino or alkoxy- or cyano-alkoxy groups or 9-p-nitramino-3, 6-diethylamino-9- (xanthenoyl)-6-benzoic acid lactam admixed with phenols or organic acids. The layers may also contain acetamide, stearamide, phthalonitride, m-nitroaniline or beta-naphthylamine which on heating melt and dissolve one of the compounds and thus lower temperature of colour formation. The interlayer (b) may contain one of the above fusible compounds or a phenol or organic acid in a binder. The material may also contain talc, clay, calcium carbonate, zinc oxide or titanium oxide and generally red and blue images are produced with the first coloured image surrounding the second due to fusible layer (b).
