Abstract

1409314 Transformer tap-changing systems SMIT NIJMEGEN ELECTROTECHNISCHE FABRIEKEN NV 7 Sept 1972 [7 Sept 1971] 41635/73 Heading HIT An on-load tap changer for a regulating transformer comprises (i) an off-load tap selector having one set of switching contacts 10 connected to the even tappings of the regulating winding B and the other set 11 connected to the odd tappings; (ii) a diverter switch C1 with two fixed main contacts 12, 13 directly connected to the selector switching contacts 10, 11, and at least two fixed auxiliary contacts 14, 15 which are contacted in succession by a switching contact 16; (iii) transition impedances 19 and 20, and (iv) an auxiliary changeover system 18, 21, 22 which connects these transition impedances with one of the main contacts 12 of the diverter switch, the arrangement being such that during changeover as the movable contact 16 passes from one fixed contact 13 to the other, 12, via auxiliary contacts 15, 14, the values of impedance brought into circuit as the auxiliary contacts are engaged decreases. This is effected in the embodiment shown by mechanically coupling the changeover contacts 18, 21 and 22 and connecting two impedances 19 and 20 in parallel in the manner shown, so that with contact 22 connected as shown the auxiliary contact 15 is connected to the higher impedance 20, the movement of the diverter switch being from main contact 13 via 15 and 14 to 12. Thus throughout the sequence the branch circuit interrupted carries less current than that newly closed. For reverse movement the three contacts 18, 21 and 22 are simultaneously changed over. Figs. 3 to 8 (not shown) illustrate several variations, both simple and more complex, in which up to five auxiliary contacts may be used in the diverter switch together with seriesparallel arrangements of similar individual impedances and modified auxiliary switching arrangements to provide the required ascending order of impedance circuits.
