Abstract

1405442 Polyaminoamides; curing epoxy resins VEBA-CHEMIE AG 27 June 1972 [4 March 1972 23 March 1972] 30085/72 Headings C3R and C3B A process for preparing compounds useful for curing epoxy resins comprises contacting at 0‹ to 300‹ C. (I) an unsaturated carbonyl compound with (II) an amide having two terminal amino groups which is derived from an aliphatic diamine H 2 N-R-NHR<SP>1</SP> in which formulµ R is a bivalent C 4-38 branched aliphatic hydrocarbon or cycloaliphatic radical; each R<SP>1</SP> is independently H, alkyl or aryl; and X is OH, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, alkylamino or Reactant (I) may be acrylic acid or anhydride or an ester or amide thereof or an ester of methacrylic or cinnamic acid. Reactants (II) may have a molecular weight of 180 to 3000 and are obtained by reacting the branched or cycloaliphatic diamine with aminoacids, lactams and/or polycarboxylic acids in equivalence proportions resulting in terminal amino groups; several examples of each type of reactant are given. Curing epoxy resins.-The above products, optionally in conjunction with other hardeners, can be used to cure epoxy resins. Extensive lists of epoxy compounds and combinations thereof are given and also of accelerators which may be used with the hardeners. Fillers, dyes, pigments, solvents and flexibilizers may also be used.
