Abstract
1405175 Drilling submerged work SALVAGE OIL SYSTEMS Ltd 21 March 1973 [24 March 1972] 14091/72 Heading B3C [Also in Divisions F2 and B7] Apparatus to recover oil and petroleum products from a closed compartment of a sunken ship 12 and transfer them to surface containers for removal to shore comprises a recovery capsule 10 capable of being lowered from a recoverysupply vessel 11 on the surface to the sunken ship. Remotely controlled electromagnets 33 and anti-slip pads 34 securely but detachably attach the capsule to the sunken ship and there is holding chamber 40b in the capsule. Remotely controlled drill mechanism 42 and cutting head 69 provide access from within the holding chamber to the closed compartment and remotely controlled pump 100 removes the said products from the compartment into the holding chamber. Main oil pump 94 then removes the products to the surface containers by line 96 which passes through service line 13. The operation of a plug 169, insertion mechanism in conjunction with a cutter head 79 is shown in Figs. 15, 16, 17. In Fig. 18 plug 87 is positioned for injection of steam through conduit 174.
