1405115 Foundry aggregate binders HOOKER CHEMICALS & PLASTICS CORP 28 Sept 1972 47405/74 Divided out of 1405114 Heading C3R and C3N A composition suitable for binding a foundry aggregate, e.g. sand comprises (1) an organic polyisocyanate and (2) a condensation product of an aldehyde and a furan alcohol of the formula wherein v is 0 or an integer from 1 to 4 and R 1 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl group. The composition may also comprise a bisphenol, e.g. bisphenol A. Most preferably the furan alcohol is furfuryl alcohol and the aldehyde is formaldehyde. The composition may comprise an organic solvent. The foundry aggregate is preferably first mixed with the condensation product and optionally the bisphenol, the resulting mixture then mixed with the polyisocyanate and the composition cured in a mould by passing a tertiary amine therethrough.
