Abstract

1404957 Mineral-mining machines GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA 6 Dec 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 56331/72 Heading E1F In a mining or tunnelling machine a cuttercarrying arm has trunnions 11 pivoted in bushes 15 in bores 14 in opposed side walls of a housing 10 and a drive is supplied to the cutter(s) by a motor 19 having firstly a housing 25 mounted through a ball race 20 on a ring 28 secured within one of the trunnions 15 and locked against rotation with respect to the housing by stop means and secondly an output shaft 23 coupled to a shaft mounted in roller races in the trunnions and carrying centrally of its length a sprocket wheel meshing with a chain driving a sprocket wheel on a shaft driving the cutter(s) at the end of the arm. With such an arrangement the shafts 22, 18 can have a common axis despite wear of the bushes 15. The stop means can be interengaging projections on the motor housing and the housing 10 or a projection on one housing engaging in a recess in the other housing. A ram controls pivoting of the arm with respect to the housing, which can be mounted either on a wheel or tracked - supported chassis or can slide or be rolled along a conveyer.
