Abstract
1404305 Liq. treatment of filament tows MILES LABORATORIES Inc 7 Feb 1974 [19 March 1973] 05727/74 Heading D1L Tows of filaments, particularly un-neutralized protein fibres, are treated with a liq. by passing the tow and liq. concurrently through a horizontal conduit into which a fluid is injected transversely to agitate and separate the tow. The tow 38 of protein fibres, introduced into the inlet 12 of the conduit 10, is passed through the conduit by the concurrent flow of NaHCO 3 /NaCl neutralizing soln. 36 introduced at 32. The tow is agitated by streams of air 40 introduced transversely into the conduit from pipes 16. The neutralizing soln., discharged from the conduit at 14, is collected at 26 and recycled via line 28 to the conduit. The neutralized fibres may be washed immediately by passing the tow to a second apparatus of the same construction, see Fig. 2.
