Abstract
1403613 Granulating metals STORA KOPPARBERGS BERGSLAGS AB 22 Aug 1972 [24 Aug 1971] 39029/72 Heading C7X [Also in Division F4] Metal is granulated by the impingement of streams of inert gas 9, 10 on a flat stream of molten metal from a nozzle 4 which is so shaped that the contraction of the flat stream to a circular crosssection is delayed by the action of the surface forces between the end-walls of the slot and the edges of the stream. The lower parts of the end-walls of the slot may diverge downwardly. Fig. 7, the side walls being shaped so that the outlet cross-section of the slot is of less area than any other cross-section, Fig. 6. Another form of nozzle has projections 38 depending from its lower surface to form extensions of the end-walls, Figs. 9 & 10. The inner faces of the downward projections may diverge.
