Abstract

1401697 Tricycles AGENCE NATIONALE DE VALORISATION DE LA RECHERCHE 22 Sept 1972 [1 Oct 1971] 43946/72 Heading B7E A tricycle comprises a main frame symmetrical about the longitudinal median plane of the cycle and supporting a steerable front wheel with positive castor, a rear frame provided by an axle 1 which mounts rear wheels one on each side of said plane and has a cylindrical member 2 extending forwardly therefrom which may rotate about a horizontal axis. Links 16a, 16b are pivoted at 15a, 15b to the base 30 of housing 3 and support a yoke 17 mounted to pivot on member 2. Belts 25a, 25b are wound in opposite directions around member 2 and each connected to a pivot pin 18a (18b) extending between side plates of the yoke and a pin 19a (19b) extending between the vertical arms of links 16a, 16b. Should the main frame longitudinal median plane not coincide with the apparent vertical the yoke will rotate on member 2, tightening one of the belts, and preventing rotation of said member 2. To avoid oscillation friction plates may be provided at the ends of the pins to coact with the inner surfaces of housing 3 and the side plates of the yoke. In a further embodiment, Fig. 7, the yoke 17 is supported by links from the base 30 of housing 3. A pendulum pivoting from side plate 17 of the yoke and a ring 43 on member 2 is caused to run up either side of a double ramp 46 should the said median plane and apparent vertical not coincide. Movement of the pendulum up a ramp will cause ring 43 to slide on member 2 and compress discs 41, 42 of a clutch thus locking the yoke and said member and preventing rotation of the rear frame.
