Abstract
1401398 Optical fibre manufacture SIEMENS AG 19 June 1973 [1 Aug 1972] 29093/73 Heading C1M A starting rod for the manufacture of optical fibres comprises a polygonal cross-section core 1 and a casing surrounding the core and consisting of separate components 2, 3, 4 and 5, each component having an optically flat surface in contact with a respective optical flat surface of the core, so that the component and core are held together by surface forces. The casing components may be rectangular in cross-section or have a cross-section in the form of a segment of a circle.
