Abstract
1400450 Watering plants P E LAIDMAN 5 Oct 1972 [19 Oct 1971] 48628/71 Heading A1E In a plant watering arrangement a pot is supported above water in a vessel 17 by means of a shaped aperture in a slab 14 of expanded polystyrene, and a sheet 18 of woven glass fibre or other porous material dips into the water and is led over the top of the slab 14 and is either, in the case of a plastic pot, inserted between the pot 13 and rooting medium such as peat compost 12 therein, or, in the case of a clay pot, wrapped around the outer surface of the pot. Water is thus supplied to the pot by capillary action, and evaporation increases the humidity in the vicinity of the plant. A filler tube 20 has a stopper 21 and a level indicator comprising a marker 22 connected to a float 23. A layer 19 of stone chips may be laid over the upper surface of the rooting medium and adjacent areas. A plurality of apertures may be provided in the slab for supporting a number of pots.
