Abstract

1400403 Buckles SIEBE GORMAN & CO Ltd 3 July 1972 [1 April 1971] 10618/71 Heading E2A A buckle comprises a frame 1 and a clasp 2 pivoted thereto by pivot pins 5 each engaging a slot in a bearing 4 on the frame, the bearings being resiliently deflected on opening the clasp and urge the clasp towards a clamping position. The pivot pins 5 are oval in cross section whereby when the clasp is released by raising an edge portion 7 of the clasp, the pivot pins deflect a tongue 6 of the bearings to a maximum and the clasp is held thereby in position until the edge portion is depressed and the resiliences of the tongues urges the clasp to the clamping position. The frame and clasp have ridged surfaces 10, 11 for clamping opposite sides of a portion of a strap. An aperture 8 in the clasp may have a cord passed through it for facilitating release of the strap. The frame has slots 12, 13 for retaining an end portion of a strap by passing it through the slot 12 beneath the frame and up through the slots 13 then returning it beneath the frame and up through the slot 12 and tensioning it. The buckle may be made of a resilient plastics.
