Abstract

1399838 Pressure die casting machines DIMO HOLDINGS Ltd 28 June 1972 [1 July 1971] 30847/71 Heading B3F A low pressure die casting apparatus comprises a furnace 2 and a supporting structure for holding a die over the furnace in co-operation with a feed duct 14, the furnace and the entire supporting structure being capable of relative lateral disengagement, the lateral movement being substantially independent of any further disengaging action. In the embodiment shown, the said supporting structure includes upper and lower plates 9 and 8 connected by rods 10 and fixed to a column 5. An upper platen 11 carrying an upper die half slides on the rods 10 and is actuated by an hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder 12. The column 5 may be raised or lowered by a jack 6 and is rotatable. During the casting operation, the feed duct 14 co-operates with a nozzle 16 leading to a lower die half mounted on the plate 8. After the die has been filled, the platen 11 is raised to open the die and permit removal of the casting. When necessary, the entire die supporting structure may be moved to an inoperative position by actuating the jack 6 to break the connection between the duct 14 and nozzle 16 and swinging the frame to said position. In a modification the column 5 is movable in a vertical direction only, the frame pivotable about the column. Other embodiments include arrangements in which there is one furnace and two die supporting structures, two furnaces and one supporting structure, and two furnaces and two supporting structures. In a further modification, Fig. 8 (not shown) the furnace is mounted on a turntable 29 which rotates about a vertical axis centred on the column (17), the die supporting structure being rendered non-rotatable by pegs (27) extending through a sleeve surrounding the column (17) and engaging in grooves in the column.
