Abstract

1399147 Boots etc B F BROOKER 13 Dec 1973 [4 Dec 1972 19 March 1973] 55942/72 and 13119/73 Heading A3B A stud 1 having a threaded shank 2 is attached to a sole 4 by a socket assembly 3 made of nylon or the like and consisting of a pillar 5 which extends through the sole 4 and which has a flange 7 abutting the internal face of the sole 4 and internal and external threads, and a retaining washer 6 which is screwed onto the external thread 9 of the pillar 5, the threaded shank 2 of stud 1 being screwed into the internal thread of pillar 5. A number (e.g. four) of projections, such as webs, gussets or flutes may be provided at the junction between the pillar 5 and flange 7 to prevent the socket 3 from turning when either the washer 6 or stud 1 is screwed onto the pillar 5. The sole facing surface of washer 6 is dished to form a peripheral mud excluding flange as shown and the opposite surface is recessed to accommodate the stud 1. The washer 6 may also be formed with a pair of holes to enable the washer to receive a tool for tightening the washer 6 on the external thread 9 of pillar 5. The stud may be of the type described in Specification 1378461.
