Abstract

640,046. Locking bolts without nuts. PLACE, C. E. S. Nov. 19, 1947, No. 30692. [Class 89(i)] An annular groove 3, Fig. 3, is formed on the bearing face of the head of a bolt or set screw, adjacent the shank. One or more slots 5 are formed diametrically across the free face of the head to a depth of from one-third to one-half the thickness. In the case of polygonal heads the slots preferably run from the centres of the flats though they may run from the corners. A recess may be drilled at the intersection of the slots. When only a single slot is used this may be of V-section to facilitate the production of the slot during the upsetting of the head. The bottoms of the slots may be flat or concave. Specifications 16535/45 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91) and 423,340 are referred to.
