Abstract

1398964 Developing electrostatic latent images; automatic control of concentration EASTMAN KODAK CO 4 Sept 1972 [ 3 Sept 1971] 40984/72 Headings G2H and G3R The concentration of toner particles in a carrier/toner developer mixture applied to electrostatic latent images on a photo-conductive belt 2 by a magnetic brush 31 is monitored by measuring the potential on the brush when the brush is in contact with charge-free portions of the belt between successive charge-bearing images. A toner replenisher 47 is actuated whenever the potential on the brush, which rises with depletion of toner, exceeds a predetermined value. Preferably the periodically obtained potential values are applied as input pulses to an integrating amplifier 55, and the replenisher is actuated when the accumulated output of the integrating amplifier reaches a threshold value within a time set by a counter 56. If the accumulated output does not reach the threshold within the time set, the counter returns the integrating amplifier and itself to zero, and actuation of the replenisher has the same effect.
