Abstract

1398380 Automatic control of cut DUNLOP Ltd 1 June 1972 [5 June 1971] 19135/71 Heading G3N In apparatus for cutting predetermined lengths of continuous material carried by a conveyer belt, by a knife which is intermittently clamped to the belt, the variations in slippage time to effect the clamping operation at different belt speeds are compensated for by an inversely varying delay derived from measurement of the belt speed. Predetermined lengths of material are measured by a pulse generator driven by the belt. After a pre-set count, a relay is operated to switch on a ramp generator producing an output voltage whose slope is proportional to belt speed, as measured by a tachogenerator. When the rising voltage reaches a pre-set, adjustable level, a trigger network is operated to energize the means for clamping the knife to the belt.
