Abstract

1397554 Manhole covers E B HERBERT 18 Aug 1972 [21 Aug 1971] 39303/71 Heading E1G The side wall of a manhole cover frame is inclined to the vertical and is alternately recessed on its outer and inner faces, the sides, e.g. 16a, of each recess being inclined downwardly towards each other to receive complementally shaped lugs 12-14 on a frusto-conical flange 10a of the manhole cover. The inclined angle between the sides of the recesses is between 50‹ and 70‹. The side walls of the cover and frame taper downwardly. A separate sealing plate may be seated on a bevelled lower rim 23. The underside of the cover may be recessed having radial ribs. The recesses in the frame may be of the same or different sizes.
