Abstract

1,267,687. Container and cover assembly. W. H. ROPER, R. E. ROPER, and C. R. ROPER. 1 Aug., 1969 [2 Aug., 1968], No. 38676/69. Headings B8D and B8T. The sidewall 86 of a container 82 terminates in an upper annular bead 96. A cover 84 for the container has its rim 100 in the form of an inverted U-shape which engages the bead 96. The closing wall 108 of the cover includes an annular recess 110 which may be downwardly facing, Fig. 6 (not shown), having a series of ribs 112 extending radially across it and spaced circumferentially of the cover which serve to stiffen the flange 106. A seal is achieved between container and cover by engaging the cover outer flange 102 with the bead under surface 98 and thus deforming a sealing ring 104. The sidewall 86 of the container may taper slightly outwardly upwardly to enable container/cover assemblies to be stacked one upon another, the lower wall 88 of the container engaging the cover as shown. The container may have external annular stiffening ribs (28), Fig. 1 (not shown), ribs (54) adjacent the underside of its base and the sidewall, and a bail-like handle (22).
