1397212 Mechanical switches PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 Oct 1973 [10 Oct 1972] 46628/73 Heading H1N A slide switch comprises a strip-like contact slide 7 displaceable in its longitudinal direction in a cavity in a housing which is bounded by guide faces, the slide 7 having one end connected to an operating member 11 and one free end which projects outside the cavity at the rear of the housing, the said free end being provided with at least one resilient hook-like member 25 which projects transversely to the longitudinal direction of slide 7, one side of said member 25 which faces the housing being adapted to cooperate, in order to lock the slide in the housing, with an abutment face 33 which is situated at the rear of the housing and encloses an acute angle with the nearest guide face. As shown, a spring 13 provides retraction but a known locking mechanism (not described) may prevent the return movement. Resilient contact members (17, Fig. 2, not shown) on two sides of the slide 7 co-operate with fixed contacts (19) formed with terminal tags 23, 21 and substantially flush with guide surfaces inside the housing. The tags 21 allow the switch to be mounted by soldering on to a printed-circuit board. The slide may be readily removed by depression of member 25 against its own resilience, but if it is desired to avoid any possible damage due to the pressure thus exerted on the supporting tags 21 the arrangement of Figs. 4a and 4b (not shown) may be used. In this embodiment the end of slide 7 is again bifurcated to provide resilience but each arm carries a latch member 25 and these extend laterally in opposite directions to co-operate with respective acute surfaces (33) on each side wall 1.
