Abstract

1396695 Silos; methods of erection E W BORROW 4 Aug 1972 [6 May 1971] 13462/71 Heading E1T A cylindrical container such as a silo is constructed by coiling in overlapping relationships 8 a strip 1 about drill and attaching same to a base made up from upright metal plates 6, the strip having a tapered portion 7 for attachment to the plate 6 and for producing the desired helix angle. The strip is carried by an adjustable arm 2 pivoted at 3 to a telescopic post 5 which may be mounted on or pivoted to a lorry, the arm 2 being provided with a counterweight 4 or a second strip 1. The arm 2 may carry a grooved roller to serve as a guide and a platform or platforms, carrying welding equipment may be mounted on the posts 5. The silo may be of durable construction with the inner and outer skins having the generatrices of the helices in the same or opposite directions; spacers are preferably fixed between the two skins and the space therebetween filled with glass wool.
