Abstract
1395906 Prilling FISONS Ltd 27 April 1972 [8 May 1971] 13894/71 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions C1 and C2] A process for prilling substantially pure ammonium nitrate and/or urea through a bore in the absence of added boric acid to a salt thereof, is characterized in that less than 1% by weight of a phosphating agent is incorporated into the material being prilled whereby the interior surface of the bore is given a phosphate treatment. The phosphating agent may be ammonium phosphate or one selected from phosphoric acid and salts thereof and its presence results in a coating 12, Fig. 2, on the inside of the tubes 11 which extend from a distributor plate 6, Fig. 1, at the base of steam jacketed tank 1 containing a secondary tank 9 to which the molten material to be prilled, is fed. The exterior surface of the plate 6 has a silicone coating 15. The droplets formed by the bores fall down a cooling tower through particulate material suspended in a gas stream into a fluidized bed of particulate material. A reciprocating transverse plate may be located above the distributor plate to induce pressure waves in the molten material.
