Abstract
1395781 Sulphosuccinic acid semi-esters HOECHST AG 29 June 1972 [30 June 1971] 30514/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Sulphosuccinic acid semi-esters of the general formula in which A represents a group of the formula each B, which may be the same or different represents H or has the same meaning as that given for A, each X, which may be the same or different, represents an alkylene radical, each R, which may be the same or different, represents an alkyl radical having from 6 to 14 carbon atoms, each M, which may be the same or different, represents a H atom, an alkali metal atom or an equivalent of an alkaline earth metal atom, each n which may be the same or different, represents a number from 2 to 25 and z represents an integer of from 1 to 9 are claimed per se. The compounds may be prepared by reacting a novolak of the general formula with (z+1) n moles of an alkylene oxide, reacting the oxallcylate so obtained with from 1 to (z+1) moles of maleic acid anhydride and treating the resulting maleic acid semi-ester with a sulphite or hydrogen sulphite in an aqueous solution.
