Abstract
1448357 Preparation of dihydric phenol derivatives UBE INDUSTRIES Ltd 18 March 1975 [4 April 1974 7 May 1974] 11126/75 Heading C2C A dihydric phenol of formula wherein each R represents C 1-6 alkyl group, and where more than one such radical is present they may be the same or different, and n represents 0 or an integer from 1 to 4 and when n is 3 or 4, at least one of the 2-, 4-, and 6-positions is not occupied with an alkyl radical is prepared by oxidizing a monohydric phenol of formula wherein R and n have the meanings given above with a ketone peroxide. The ketone peroxides used as oxidizing agents are obtained by the reaction of an appropriate ketone with H 2 O 2 or autoxidation of secondary alcohols. The following peroxides are prepared: methyl ethyl ketone peroxide; 4-methyl-2-pentanone peroxide; cyclopentanone peroxide; and methylphenyl ketone peroxide.
