Abstract

1395233 Storage apparatus ELECOMPACK CO Ltd 2 June 1972 [3 June 1971 1 Oct 1971] 25896/72 Heading A4T [Also in Division B8] Storage apparatus comprises a row of compartments 14 for housing a stack of articles 15 and each having an upper article inlet and a lower article outlet 22, a conveyer 16 extending along the row, and means for discharging the articles horizontally through the outlets 22 so that they drop on to the conveyer 16. A second row of compartments may be provided along the other side of the conveyer 16 such that the two rows and the conveyer form a storage unit, a plurality of the units being arranged parallel to one another and discharging to a common conveyer 17. Working aisles 13 are provided between adjacent units or, alternatively Fig. 13 (not shown) the units are closely adjacent but mounted on rails so as to be separable to form a working aisle. In Fig. 3 an article is discharged by the advancing of a rod 30 caused by the energizing of an electromagnet 28 carried by a spring 26 to permit the rod 30 to be lowered, during its return stroke, by the stack of articles above it. Operation of the electromagnet 28 is controlled by a detector 25. In Fig. 6 the article is discharged by a pusher 68 reciprocated by two endless chains 64, 65. Whilst discharging an article, the pusher 68 supports the article above it and, during its return stroke, lowers the article to the base of the compartment. In further embodiments, Fig. 10 Figs. 7-9, 11, 12. (not shown), the article is discharged by a fluid operated ram (272) or by pusher members (149, 150) carried by an endless chain 148 trained round sprockets 132, 145. The sprockets 132 are supported rotatably by a common drive-shaft 128 extending beneath the row of compartments. Each sprocket 132 has a projection 134 adapted to engage with a projection 137 on a respective member 136 slidably secured to the shaft 128. A collar 140 engages a groove in the member 136 and is carried by a crank arm 139 pivoted by means of an electromagnet 142 to urge the member 136 into driving engagement with the sprocket 132.
