Abstract

1394238 Drawers, cabinets PLASTIC ENGS Ltd 19 June 1973 [19 June 1972] 28660/72 Heading A4B [Also in Divisions B5 and El ] A method of forming an article such as a drawer, a kitchen or bathroom cabinet or a door frame comprising forming from plastics material a plank having a cellular core 2 and a dense outer skin 3, forming V-shaped notches 4 across the plank where the corners of the article are to be located, forming a U-shaped channel 9 at the apex of each notch, and bending the plank so that the opposite faces of each notch meet. The plastics material may be P.V.C., polypropylene or high impact polystyrene, and the plank may be moulded with the notches 4 and channels 9 included or the plank may be extruded and the notches and channels subsequently cut in it. The opposite faces of each notch may be stuck together. A longitudinal groove (12) may be provided for receiving a base 11 of a drawer, or the base may be screwed or stuck to the bottom edges of the plank, and side grooves (13) may be provided to receive drawer runners. The front (10) of the drawer may be formed as part of the plank or it may be separate and screwed, dowelled or stuck to the drawer sides; dowel holes may be machined or moulded in the plank. The article may be an octagonal frame.
