Abstract

1393776 Tractor-trailer braking systems WABCO-WESTINGHOUSE GmbH 3 Aug 1972 [5 Aug 1971] 36294/72 Heading F2F Two lines of a multicircuit brake system of a trailer comprise an air pressure supply line 1 from a tractor and the brake pressure line 19 of the tractor, each line controlling opening of relay valves 14, 8 which control braking pressure supplied from line 1 to front and rear brake cylinders 11, 12 via reservoirs 5, 6. During normal braking the pressure in line 19 is regulated at 21 and fed to actuator connections 22, 23 respectively of valves 14, 8 to open these valves allowing air pressure to pass to cylinders 11, 12 by way of a first circuit of line 1 comprising reservoir 5 and valve 8 and by way of a second circuit comprising reservoir 6 and valve 14 to the front cylinders only. A single line control valve 3 allows the line 1 pressure to pass to reservoirs 5, 6 by way of a protection valve 4 allowing limited return flow, during normal braking but on loss of pressure in line 1 either by disconnection of the tractor and trailer or by fracture thereof allowing air to pass from reservoirs 5, 6 via valve 4 into a line 16 for actuating connections 17, 18 of valves 14, 8 respectively to open these valves and actuate cylinders 11, 12. If pressure is lost in the first circuit only front cylinders 11 are applied whereas if pressure is lost in the second circuit both cylinders 11, 12 are actuated.
