Abstract

1393254 Valves JAS YOUNG & CUNNINGHAM (NEWCASTLE) Ltd 7 Dec 1972 [14 Dec 1971] 58085/71 Heading F2V A valve has a closure 4 for co-operation with a seat 3 and operatively connected to a transverse spindle 5 so that on opening the valve the closure is first moved axially away from the seat and is then turned through 90 degrees. A rectangular sectioned part 51 of the spindle is provided with opposed angled slots 9 in which are guided balls 8a held by grub screws 8b in a block 42 on the back of the closure. The opposite end of the spindle carries a bush 5a threadedly engaged with the end 6a of the shaft of a hand wheel 6 and in the opposite sides of which are gooves 14, each formed with an axially extending portion 14a and an angularly disposed portion 14b. Balls 13a held by grub screws 13b in a collar 11 engage in the grooves 14 so that when the hand wheel is rotated the spindle 5 first moves axially and then rotates, the balls 8a and slots 9 simultaneously causing the closure to first move axially off its seat and then rotate to open position.
