Abstract

139,300. Pearce & Sons, G. W., and Jones, A. E. E. Feb. 26, 1919. Hinge and swivelling joints; with valves and cocks.-A pump 1 for forcing air into the petrol tank of a motor-vehicle is mounted on its delivery pipe 7 by a pivot joint which also serves as a valve to cut off communication between the pump and the tank when the pump is not in use. The pipe 7 is attached to some part 9 of the vehicle, and the pump communicates with it through the passages 3, 6, formed in a disk 4 on an extension 2 of the pump, and a hole 19 in the flexible washer 18. The disk 4 is fitted with a screwed extension 5 fitted with a nut 14 and locking- washer 15. When not in use, the pump is moved into a vertical position, when the passages 6, 17 cease to register. The valve 21 allows the pressure in the tank to be reduced. Pins or stops may be provided for limiting the angle through which the pump can be turned.
