139,064. Smith, A. E., Bloodworth, F. J., and Adams, A. S., [trading as Smith & Co., E.). April 17, 1919. Covers and lids.-In covers or closing-devices for butter churns &c. and of the type wherein two main members a, b, held together by a screw c provided with a spring e, are moved together to press an elastic ring or band i outwardly and thus effect the closure, the member a is of wheel or rim-and-spoke form with.a bevelled edge, and has lugs k engaged by pins l on the member b whereby the two members are caused to move evenly and lateral displacement of the ring &c. is prevented. A screwed lever d effects the closure. The screw c has a central vent bore and a spring-controlled pin valve f fitted with a cap g which is depressed to open the valve. The screwed lever may be arranged to move the upper member in both directions, the spring being dispensed with.
