Abstract
1390533 Spraying apparatus MOTAN GmbH 12 Oct 1972 [13 Oct 1971] 47015/72 Heading B2F [Also in Division F1] An oscillating gas column combustion apparatus which may be used to produce an atomised spray, e.g. for disinfection, comprises a combustion chamber 43 to which a fuel/ air mixture is supplied through a tangential pipe 41 from a carburettor 10. The latter comprises two annular housing members 13, 14 clamped together to define a chamber 16 into which open air inlet ports 21 controlled by oscillating diaphragms 23 clamped at their inner edges by rings 25. The latter include ports 30 to subject diaphragms 23 to the pressure oscillations within combustion chamber 43 and define with housing members 13, 14 annular gaps 29 for flow of incoming air. A central partition 31 directs the air radially inwards towards a convergent-divergent fuel nozzle assembly 35 into the throat of which fuel is drawn via duct 38 from tank 6. The fuel and air flow through an opening 32 in partition 31 into pipe 41 where mixing is assisted by swirler 42 prior to ignition by plug 44 and discharge of the gases into combustion chamber 43. Fuel nozzle 35 has a high resistance to backflow, but any backflow that does occur is collected in chamber 40 which is connected to a compressed air conduit and a return to fuel tank 6. The carburettor is also provided with a passage 37 connected to a starting air pump 4. Liquids to be dispersed by the apparatus are stored in a tank 7 having a removable partition (59, Fig. 5 not shown) defining separate chambers (58) each of which has a control valve 8 connected via pipe 60 to an injection nozzle 61. The latter is disposed in a tube 62 forming a continuation of combustion chamber 43, the outlet end of tube 62 being stepped (at 74, 75 Fig. 11 not shown) to cause recirculation and improved mixing of the injected liquid. Several injection nozzles 61 may be provided. An air cooling jacket 11 surrounds chamber 43 and tube 62. Each control valve 8 has two inlets (64, 65 Figs. 7 to 10 not shown) pressurised by connection to the carburettor starter air passage 37 and arranged such that in one valve position (Figs. 7, 8) tank 7 is pressurised and pipe 60 is purged whereas in the other position (Figs. 9, 10) liquid is forced from the tank into pipe 60. The apparatus is mounted on a frame 2 and may be pivoted about a horizontal axis 3.
