Abstract

1390482 Two part coupling AMERICAN OPTICAL CORP 9 March 1973 [9 March 1972] 11619/73 Heading H2E A connector to couple an external heart pacemaker to the cable to the implanted electrodes comprises a plurality of units, each comprising a plug pin 20 emerging from a projecting insulating sheath 18, and a mating socket in the form of a collet 38 with resilient prongs with inward ridge 58 to grip the pin 20. In front of the collet a PTFE guiding ring 62 directs the entering pin into the bell mouth of the collet, and in front of ring 62 a flexible seal 80 engages projecting sheath 18 round the pin. All the collets in the connector, each in a retainer 30 gripping the collet base only and attached to a nickel strip for connection, are potted in epoxy resin together with other parts of the pacer circuit, the collet mouths being upward and bases plugged 40 before the potting process to prevent entry of resin. The common mouth region 96 accepts the ribs 24 on the resilient sealing assembly round the plugs, except for rib 28 which abuts the front face of region 96; both plug and socket assemblies are penetrated by a hole through which locking pin 26 can be inserted. The common mouth region 96, including the seats for seals 80 and guide rings 62, is formed during the potting process.
