Abstract

138,842. Martino, J. de. Dec. 6, 1919. Ball bearings.-A ball thrust bearing for use when the space is restricted, applicable for motor-vehicle differential gearing, comprises two disks 8, 9 secured by pins 6, 7 to the hub A<1> of the fixed gear case and to a rotary drum C. The disk 8 is offset at its outer part to receive balls 10<a>, a bearing ring 11, and a ball cage 10, which rotates on the cylindrical surface 8<d> of the disk 8. The disk 8 is flanged at 8<b>, 8<c> to fit over the disk 9 and enclose the bearing. In a modification, the parts 8<b>, 8<c>, 11 are omitted, the balls bearing directly on both disks, which may be formed of nickel-chrome steel.
