Abstract
187,497. Bostoch, F. J., and Moore, S. Bramley-. Dec. 2, 1921. Right to Patent relinquished. Cylindrical-journal bearings; thrust bearings.- A series of individually-floating bearing-elements or pads are arranged between two load-carrying members, and are so shaped that, when in action, each element has sliding contact with both of the members through the medium of tapered oil films. Fig. 2 shows a journal bearing in which the pads a are shaped for rotation in both directions, while Fig. 3 shows a bearing in which the pads a are shaped for rotation in one direction only. Fig. 5 shows a thrust bearing in which a loose ring f is introduced between two series a', a<2> of floating bearing-elements. Suitable end rings or annular cages may be employed to position the elements.
