Abstract

1387852 Knitting-machines WESCO INDUSTRIES CORP 3 March 1972 [23 April 1971] 10135/72 Heading D1C A yarn storage device for feeding yarn to a knitting machine comprises a drum 18 and means to feed yarn on to the drum and detector means 60 for controlling the winding operation so that a predetermined quantity of yarn is retained on the drum the means for winding the yarn comprising a member mounted in a frame for rotation about an axis coincident with the axis of the storage drum by means of idlers that engage a circular periphery of the member which includes an aperture which when the member is rotated is carried around the storage drum. In one type of embodiment (Fig. 9) there is provided a disc 126 carrying a yarn laying tube 150 therethrough the plate having a toothed edge which meshes with pinions 134, 136 between plates 130, 132. The drum 120 is mounted by ball bearings on a stub shaft from the plate 126 and the plate 126 is rotated by a motor 144 and pinion 142.
