Abstract

1387637 Rear view mirrors A S WINCH and J CONNER 7 Feb 1973 [9 Dec 1971] 57263/71 Heading B7J [Also in Division G2] A mirror assembly, particularly for use in a motor vehicle, comprises a plastics mirror 6 and a support member 1 for the mirror, this member 1 having at least two rigid legs 2, which are each grooved to slidably receive an edge of the mirror 6, and being positioned generally to the rear of the mirror. A stem 3 of the support member 1 may have either a threaded portion, Fig. 1, or a ball 7, Fig. 2, for engagement with a mounting on the vehicle. The end 4 of each leg 2 is formed into the groove 5 in which a mirror edge is slidably received, the member 1 being spaced from the rear face of the mirror 6 to avoid abrasion of silvering thereon. The rear of the mirror and the member 1 are preferably enclosed in a flexible plastics jacket (8), Figs. 3-5 (not shown), which extends partially over the front surface of the mirror 6 as a border or surround (10) around the reflective area.
