Abstract
1385881 Air-conditioning HAWKER SIDDELEY DYNAMICS Ltd 14 Feb 1972 [12 Feb 1971] 4505/71 Heading F4V An air-conditioning system for aircraft cabins comprises a refrigeration unit 8 having a capacity sufficient to reduce the delivered air in duct 13 to a temperature below that at which ice forms if there is free water in the air, a passage 12 for supplying warm air into the duct, a valve 1 controlling the flow of warm air to the duct 13, a water detector or ice anticipator 5 in the duct 13, a controller 3 for the valve 1 receiving signals from the detector 5 and a temperature sensor 4 arranged to open the valve when iceforming conditions exist to pass warm air to the duct 13. The valve is fast-acting, being actuated e.g. by electro-pneumatic means 2, and it is located in a by-pass 12 round the refrigeration unit. The controller 3 also receives signals from temperature sensors 6, 7 in the cabin. In another form these sensors control a slowacting thermostat valve and the water detector 5 and temperature sensor 4 control a separate fast-acting valve, the two valves being in parallel by-pass loops. Water in the air flow in duct 13 is extracted by a unit 16 before entering the cabin.
