Abstract

1276943 Air conditioning aircraft HAWKER SIDDELEY DYNAMICS Ltd 19 April 1971 [24 March 1970] 14312/70 Heading F4V [Also in Division G1] To prevent icing in a water extractor 12 in an aircraft air conditioning system, a by-pass flow taken from the main duct 11 via a line 18 is passed through a grille 22 maintained at a temperature lower than the temperature of the main duct 11 flow, e.g. 5‹ C. lower, by a thermoelectric cooling device, any build up of ice on the grille producing an increased pressure drop across the grille which is sensed by a differential pressure sensor 23. When icing of the grille occurs, a valve 19 is opened to inject warm air into the duct 11 so that the air flow through the water extractor does not become cold enough to cause icing. The water extractor comprises a coalescer 13, a baffle chamber 14 having a drain 15, and a pressure relief valve 16.
