Abstract
1385862 Motor driving arrangements J CLARK 22 Nov 1972 [4 Oct 1974] 46106/71 Heading H2A A motor drive arrangement comprises a differential gear unit 26 whose carrier 30 is secured directly (on splines 14b) to the motor rotor 14, the two output shafts 28, 29 of the gear unit being coaxial with the rotor axis and one of them (29) passing through a bore in the rotor. The gear unit 26 is contained within an oil-filled casing 24 secured (24d, 20a) to the motor frame 20. The bearings within the gear unit are arranged to transmit axial thrusts on the shafts 28, 29 to the casing 24, and the shaft 29 is additionally supported by a bearing 38 inside the rotor. The shafts 28, 29 drive respective wheels of a vehicle either directly or through reduction gears arranged one within the casing 24 and the other within a casing at the other end of the rotor.
