Abstract

1385508 Filters GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 18 May 1973 [12 June 1972] 27280/72 Heading H1W Spurious modes of resonance are prevented in a filter consisting of one or more dielectric resonators by means of radial metal screws aligned with the ends of the coupling probes. As shown, cylindrical resonators 1, 2, 3, of, eg., barium strontium zirconate, are supported by means of a polystyrene tube 5 and spacers 6, 6<1> within a waveguide 4 which is short-circuited at either end and which has a cut-off frequency above the operating frequency of the filter. Input and output coupling probes 10, 11 are joined to the pins 12, 13 of coaxial connectors 8, 9 and lie on the surfaces of arcuate polystyrene members 14. Radial mode-suppressor screws 15, 16 lie near the surface of resonator 1 and are respectively contained in the diametral planes AA<1>, BB<1> which pass through the ends 17, 18 of the probes 10, 11. Tuning is effected by dimensional adjustment of the resonators. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), five resonators each having mode-suppressor screws adjacent to both surfaces are used. Each resonator is tuned by a radial slug of barium strontium zirconate.
