Abstract
1384812 Laminates INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 7 Jan 1972 929/72 Heading B5N A core intended to be provided with covering layers to form a conveyer or other belt is made by applying a continuous thread 11 transversely in zig-zag fashion on the face of a sheet 15 of elastomeric polymer incorporating parallel longitudinal threads 16 and travelling in the direction of the latter threads, and pressing the successively applied portions of the thread into the polymer. The longitudinal reinforcement may be incorporated into the sheet as it is formed by extrusion or calendering, and the sheet may be supplied directly from the location at which it is made: in other cases it may be necessary to heat the sheet before applying the thread. As shown in Fig. 1, the continuous thread, e.g. of textile material or metal is laid on a roller 2 around retractable pins 19, 19<SP>1</SP> by reciprocating guiding element 1 to form lengths 11<SP>1</SP> on the surface of the roller which are subsequently brought into contact with, and pressed into, the surface of the sheet 15. The lights 20 are removed by devices T. Transverse threads may be applied to both faces of the sheet by employing a pair of such apparatus wherein the rollers 2 together form the nip to which the sheet is fed. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the thread (27) is laid from a member (21) reciprocating on an arcuate guide (28). The thread is thereby laid substantially directly on the sheet by co-operation with a roller (22).
